In this way Spider Trap works very efficiently. One method would not be enough to reach the same results. Sadly Spider Trap can’t assure 100 % secure against bad spiders – but the most Softwares can’t do this.
In order to make spider trap functionally you need webspace with PHP4 or PHP5. Further you should be able to create own failure-sites (ErrorDocuments). Moreover you need the rights to ban ips via htaccess.
